A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspection is required in Kansas if a vehicle has a title from a state other than Kansas or a foreign country, the vehicle has been assembled, reconstructed, reconstituted, or restored from 1 or more vehicles, or the proper identification number of a vehicle is in doubt. Regular VIN inspections can be done by the Comanche County Sheriff's Office on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-1pm by appointment. There is a $20.00 fee collected at the time of inspection. We are unable to do salvage inspections, as these inspections are only done by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
We offer fingerprinting service for a variety of licenses including teaching, real estate, KDHE, and concealed carry licenses. A $10.00 fee is charged for non-criminal justice use fingerprinting.
Civil process may be served by the Sheriff's Office. We charge a $15.00 process fee. This fee must be paid by cash or check only.
Accident reports may be obtained online at www.crashdocs.org. Your accident case number, involved party last name, and crash date are needed to locate your report. If you are unsure of any of this information, contact us at 620-582-2511.
Open Records requests may be completed using the provided form. Requests may be hand delivered at the Sheriff's Office, mailed, or submitted using the Contact Us page.
Note: Not all records maintained by our agency are subject to the Kansas Open Records Act. A detailed list of exempt records can be found in K.S.A. 45-221.
